Piano Restoration

A piano that has been played and loved for decades accumulates wear across every mechanical system. Full restoration returns the instrument to — or beyond — its original specification. Our restoration work covers:

Soundboard & Bridge Repair
String Replacement
Hammer Reshaping & Voicing
Key Refelting & Levelling
Action Regulation & Rebuilding
Damper Felt Replacement
Cabinet Refinishing
Pedal Mechanism Overhaul

Restore or Replace?

Restore when the instrument has sentimental or heritage value, when it is a quality make that would cost significantly more to replace new, or when the structural components (rim, soundboard, pin block) remain fundamentally sound.

Replace when the cost of restoration exceeds 60–70% of a comparable new instrument's value, or when structural damage is beyond economic repair.

Master Ranjan will assess your instrument honestly and give you an unbiased recommendation — even if that recommendation is to invest in a new instrument from our collection.

“Every piano that comes to us for restoration is treated as if it were a patient. We diagnose before we prescribe.”

Our Restoration Process

1

Consultation

We discuss the instrument's history, condition, and your goals — heritage preservation, performance use, or resale value.

2

Inspection

A full structural assessment of the rim, soundboard, pinblock, and action determines the true scope of work required.

3

Service Execution

Restringing, hammer reshaping, action rebuilding, and cabinet refinishing are carried out to the agreed scope and specification.

4

Quality Check

The fully restored piano is voiced, regulated, and play-tested across its entire range before it leaves our workshop.

5

Completion

You receive full documentation of the work performed, along with care guidance for your newly restored instrument.

What a Full Restoration Achieves

Concert-Grade Tone Restored

Reshaped hammers and a regulated action recover the dynamic range and tonal richness the piano had when new.

Preserves Heritage Value

A family heirloom or quality vintage make retains its sentimental and resale value rather than being discarded.

Decades of Renewed Life

A properly restored piano can perform reliably for several more decades, often outlasting a comparable new instrument.

Often More Economical

For a quality make, restoration frequently costs significantly less than purchasing a comparable new grand or upright.

Restoration FAQ

A full restoration typically includes: complete restringing with new strings and tuning pins, hammer replacement or reshaping and voicing, full action regulation (aligning, levelling, and adjusting every mechanical component), key refelting, damper felt replacement, pedal mechanism overhaul, and cabinet refinishing. The scope is determined after an initial assessment and agreed with you before work begins.
Signs that your piano may need restoration beyond regular tuning include: notes that do not sound when played (broken strings or worn hammers), keys that stick or do not return properly, a buzzing or rattling sound from inside the instrument, a tone that sounds thin or lacks projection despite tuning, visible cracking in the soundboard, or keys that have turned yellow and uneven. If you are unsure, contact us for an assessment — we will inspect the instrument and give you an honest, no-obligation recommendation.
A complete restoration typically takes between four and eight weeks, depending on the scope of work and the availability of parts for your specific make and model. We will give you a realistic timeline once the inspection is complete and the scope is agreed.
